UPDATE: Helmets AND Facemasks
The Canadian Lacrosse Association has released Technical
Bulletin 11-05 to specify what helmets and facemasks are legal or illegal in
minor lacrosse.
For box lacrosse, all players are required to wear a helmet
which must meet one of the following standards:
1) A NOCSAE approved helmet
and face protector, approved as a complete unit, for lacrosse, OR
2) A CSA approved hockey
helmet with a CSA approved facemask for lacrosse. These facemasks must have a
CSA sticker on them, OR
3) A CSA approved hockey
helmet with a CSA approved facemask for hockey. The facemask must cover the
entire face.
Parents shopping for any helmet should look for the
appropriate approval stamp on the back of the helmet. Helmets and facemasks
that are not properly approved run the risk of being checked, the player
penalized and the helmet removed from play.
