Outlaws Take "B" Championship at The Stayner Hitman FairPlay Tournament
What a day it was in beautiful Stayner. The North Perth Outlaws were in for a hard battle today at the Stayner Hitman FairPlay Tournament today and saw three great competitors on route to winning the "B" Championship Title.

The first game saw the Outlaws up against a strong Stouffville Thunder team who came out guns blazing!  This battle went back and forth the whole game and ended in OT.

The first period was both physical and fast. To start the the game, No. 18 Travis Beaven threw his whole weight, 85lbs (taken at time of interview), at the Stouffville player and created a turn over which resulted in a great scoring chance. No. 9 Jackson Kuepfer got the Outlaws on the board with a quick snipe past the Thunder goalie. Not to disappoint, our own Outlaws goalkeeper, No. 30 Seth Teatero, was up to the task as well, making several key saves throughout the 1st and 2nd period. The Outlaws would end the 1st period down 4-2.

The second period saw some great passing by multiple players, which had No. 3 Blake Elzinga winning the draw and rushing down to put one by the Stouffville goalie. No. 16 Brayden Parson was feeling left out so he, too, won a face off and went down and scored. This started the first of two goals, not 15 seconds apart. No. 30 Seth Teatero saw action till the end of the second where illness took over and he was forced to leave the game. The Outlaws were down 8-7 after two periods of play.

The last period saw veteran goalie, No 1 Emmalin Mclaughlin, get in between the pipes and she became a wall against this strong Stouffville team. The start of this period also keep the physicality going with both teams landing some good hits.  No. 15 Nathan Coverdale came to play in the third, scoring both goals. The second one of those came by taking a sweet pass from No. 3 Blake Elzinga and getting it past the Thunder goalie to tie the game at 9 each. This resulted in the first OT of the year for the Outlaws.

Overtime was quick and had the Outlaws goalie, No. 1 Emmalin McLaughlin, making multiple saves to start the period. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as the Thunder were able to sneak one by on the low left side of McLaughlin, losing 10-9 in OT.

The second game of the day was against a pesky Simcoe team that must not have heard what happened in the first game of the day for the Outlaws. From start to finish, the Outlaws were out for a win!

The first period saw the only two goals by No. 3 Blake Elzinga, but there plenty of other scoring chances. No. 9 Jackson Kuepfer had multiple rushes resulting in a post and a close miss. No. 8 Madeline Ellis, No. 19 Chad Simpson, No. 17 Jaxson Beirnes, No. 2 Nolan Vessie, and No. 13 Oliver Sawchuck all were key in making defensive plays keeping the ball out of The Outlaws net.

The second period was much the same as the first with No. 3 Blake Elzinga scoring two goals with the first goaltender assist of the year from No. 1 Emmalin McLaughlin. The Outlaws took a 4-0 lead into the third period.

The third period saw the Outlaws play some great back and forth lacrosse, making crisp passes from end to end. The lone goal of the last period was from No. 3 Blake Elzinga.  Did I mention that all five goals were scored by your Captain, No. 3 Blake Elzinga? The Simcoe boys didn't know what hit them today.  The Outlaws took game #2 by a score of 5-0.  This win secured a game for the "B" Championship vs. a very familiar team this year.  The Owen Sound North Stars.

THE FINAL GAME - "B" CHAMPIONSHIP     OUTLAWS vs. NORTH STARS

If any of the two previous games against Owen Sound were a preview of what the "B" Championship game was going to be like, every fan had better be ready. This game was full of physical, fast, and in-your-face plays.

The first period had No. 9 Jackson Kuepfer, No. 8 Madeline Ellis, and No, 10 Ryan Heimpel all lead the charge in either face-off wins or scoring chances. No. 15 Nathan Coverdale, No. 5 Kurch Fletcher, No. 6 James Bridges, and No 11 Brayden Ridley took charge in throwing their weight around vs. this North Stars team.  A beautiful setup by No. 15 Nathan Coverdale to No. 3 Blake Elzinga had the lone goal of the period.

The second period saw netminder No. 1 Emmalin McLaughlin make several key saves to keep the Outlaws in this game. This Owen Sound team would not give up, however, notching two goals in this second period.  Things were starting to heat up as No. 19 Chad Simpson, No. 2 Nolan Vessie, and No. 14 Talis Baldwin all got in mixups with the Owen Sound team. The offence certainly was prevalent as No. 13 Oliver Sawchuck and No. 18 Travis Beaven both had good offensive pushes. The end of the second had the Outlaws down 2-1.

Period three started the same way the second ended, fast and physical.  No. 9 Jackson Kuepfer made a 'TSN Turning Point' pass to No. 15 Nathan Coverdale to tie this contest up at two. From here, the Outlaws would only look at pushing for one more goal. No. 7 Bryce Collinson had to know that this was his time to get a highlight-reel goal by getting past three North Stars players while against the boards to go in and pick the corner of the net to put the Outlaws ahead by one. This goal would stand to be the game winning and "B" Championship goal.

The Outlaws took the third and final game of the day in the "B" Championship 4-2 over a very good Owen Sound North Stars team.

The Outlaws will only have one day rest as they are back in action and on the road on Tuesday June 12th in Fergus at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

Great job by everyone, Outlaws!!!
